Dacoit beaten dead in Uzirpur
An alleged dacoit was caught and lynched during robbery at a house at Dosatina village in Guthia union under Uzirpur upazila early yesterday.
Shahjahan Ali Khan, officer-in-charge of Uzirpur police station, said a gang of dacoits attacked the house of postmaster Pabitra Haldar in the village at about 2 am yesterday.
Hearing screams, neighbours came and caught one of them and beat him to death. Others escaped.
The victim was identified as Dulal, 31, son of Waris of Marichbunia village in Kathalia upazila in Jhalakati district, the OC said.
At least eight villagers were also injured.
Five of the injured including Pabitra halder and his wife Tulu Rani were admitted to nearby Banaripara health complex.
Barisal Police Superintendent Toufiq Mahbub Chowdhury and ASP Mashruf Khaled visited the spot.
The body was sent to Barisal SBMCH morgue for autopsy.
