Despite alarming rise in the activities of agyan party, criminals who mug people after getting them drugged, law enforcers are yet to nab any of the criminal gang members. The victims were admitted to local clinics in critical condition, police said. Two men introducing themselves as members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took shelter at the house of Barkatullah of the village on Monday night and later their accomplices came there. At about 11:00pm the criminals managed to serve the inmates juice mixed with sedative. After drinking the juice, the victims became unconscious and the criminals looted away cash and other valuables from the three houses, police quoted locals as saying. Quite a few other people fell victim to the Agyan Party men in last two months. After taking food or drink mixed with sedatives, they fell unconscious when the criminals made good with valuables including cash money. Many of the victims had to be hospitalised in critical condition, said police and hospital sources. Agyan Party members usually mix a kind of sedative having no taste or smell with tasty items like fruit juice, green coconut water, betel leaf to feed their targets, Satkhira Superintendent of Police Mirza Abdullahel Baki said. Several gangs of muggers might be involved in such activities as the drugs imported from Pakistan are available in local markets at cheap rates, he said, adding that people should remain aware about taking foods during travel.
