Police finally take case against grabber
At last police took the case for grabbing at least 20 acres of land of indigenous people at Ganjapara under Sadar upazila in Khagrachhari hill district.
The accused grabbers are Mohammad Aminul Hoque of Mohazonpara Narikel Bagan under Sadar upazila and his son Jubo Dal Vice President Mohammad Bahadur Alam alias Bahar.
Earlier the then Magistrate Ahmed Kabir gave police orders to investigate the matter and take necessary action but the investigation was delayed due to alleged bribery. Consequently, police did not take the case, sources said.
On March 2 this year, The Daily Star published a news item on the land grabbing incident in Khagrachhari.
Following publication of the news, an internal investigation found investigation officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Rafiq involved in bribery, said a high official of district police seeking anonymity.
They have also changed the IO, he said.
The two accused grabbed at least 20 acres of land of Chaindi Aung Marma 61, daughter of Mong Mogh of Ganjapara, Anil Chakma, Satho Aung Marma, Neeaung Marma, Lali Marma alais Lal Buri of the same village while Khagrachhari Municipality Chairman Joynal Abedin helped the grabbers, they claimed.
