4 get life for killing minor girl
A Panchagarh court yesterday sentenced four youths to life-term imprisonment in a case for killing a minor girl after gang rape.
District and Sessions Judge Afzal Hossain handed down the verdict in a crowed courtroom in presence of three of the convicts for killing a minor girl after gang rape.
The court also fined them Tk 5000 each, in default, to suffer another one year rigorous imprisonment.
The convicts are Jasim Uddin alias Jahidur Rahaman Babu, Imran Ali, Bidyut and Mozammel Hossain of Mirgarh village under Sadar upazila of the district. Mozammel Hossain was tried in absentia.
The judge acquitted four others persons as allegation against them could not be proved.
Jasmin Akter Rimu, a student of class four, daughter of freedom fighter Imam Uddin of Mirgarh under Panchagarh Sadar upazila was gang-raped and strangled to death August 8 in 2007.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the verdict, the victim's mother said she would go to the higher court.
