Bogra factory closed, two others sued
Two fertiliser factories have been sued for producing and selling adulterated fertiliser.
Agriculture Extension Officer and Fertiliser Inspector Jharna Begum filed the case against Bogra Agro Industry and Karotoa Fertiliser Complex (pvt) Ltd on Sunday.
Besides, production of mixed fertiliser company “BAFCO” in Shahjahanpur upazila have been closed for supplying sub-stranded and adulterated fertilizer in Bogra and other northern districts, DAE sources said.
The government gave permission to six fertiliser factories in Bogra to produce mixed fertiliser, but two or three of them are reported to have been marketing sub-standard and adulterated fertiliser by mixing soil and colour along with other products including powder, they said.
ABM Sarwar, managing director of Karotoa Fertiliser Complex (pvt) Ltd claimed that he had been manufacturing fertiliser with proper composition.
Fertiliser Inspector Jharna Begum, on the other hand, said the test result show the fertilisers as unfit for applying in crop fields.
Chief Scientific Officer of Soil Resource Development Institute, Mainul Ahsan said in his report that the government-approved proportion of nitrogen is 12 per cent but test result of the sample collected from Karotoa Fertiliser Complex shows only 7.34 per cent of nitrogen while test result of fertiliser from Bogra Agro Industry shows only 4.03 per cent.
A large quantity of sub-standard and adulterated fertiliser has been stocked in several mixed fertiliser factories including Bogra Agro Industry for sale in the next Aman season, said sources in Agricultural Extension Department (AED) in Bogra.
