Another extortion case has been filled against detained former BNP lawmaker Majibur Rahman Manju. His younger brother, two sons, son-in-law, driver of his car and four others are also accused in the case. Gouri Lal Das of Hasanpur village of Dighirpar union in Bajitpur upazila filed the case with the court of Judiciary Magistrate Abu Taher Md. Sayeed on Monday. The judge ordered officer-in-charge (OC) ABM Rejaul of Bajitpur police station to investigate the incident. Manju was elected from Kishoreganj-6 constituency (Nikly-Bajitpur) in the last election, In the case Gouri alleged that on April 15, 2002, Manju along with the other accused demanded Tk two lakh from him as extortion and he paid Tk one lakh. But Manju and his people threatened him to pay the remaining Tk one lakh. As he failed to pay the rest, Manju's men on April 23 took away over 70 mounds of paddy from his ready to harvest paddy fields and grabbed his dwelling houses and farm lands. Being scared, Gouri fled away with his wife and children. He returned home as Manju is now in jail, he stated in the complaint. The other accused are Manju's younger brother Abu Bakkar Siddique Dalhousi, sons Mahbubur Rahman Uzzal and Mahbubur Rahman Rubel, son-in-law Shohag Miah, car driver Liton Miah, Lal Miah, Ajit Das, Krishna Dhan Das and Shahadat Bhuiyan. OC Rejaul of Bajitpur police station said he would start investigation after receiving papers from the court. Monju is now in jail. He faces several murder and extortion cases including the case for the sensational murder of Union Parishad chairman Taher Uddin Tahu.
