Acting secretary general of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), Sayeed Ashraful Islam, has said the caretaker government (CG) will have no scope to escape if it fails to hold a free, fair and credible general election. The government is losing acceptance of common people as it has failed to contain price hike of essential commodities, he told newsmen at Kishoreganj Press Club on Monday night. The government has also lost its acceptance among foreign investors as indicator of foreign investment has touched the lowest point in 15 years. AL wants immediate withdrawal of emergency and holding of general elections before local government polls, he said, adding that people are in confusion as speeches by advisers of the CG are contradictory to one another. He blamed the government for not initiating the process to try war criminals. AL would work with freedom fighters for trial of the war criminals as the nation demands it, he said. The CG has refrained from promulgating proposed women's right act in the face of protest by vested quarters, the AL leader said.
