Pahela Baisakh festivities begin in Khagrachhari

The five- day traditional indigenous cultural progrmme marking Pahela Baisakh began in Khagrachhari yesterday with great enthusiasm in district to mark the Bangla New year 1415 at district Khagrachhari. Khagrachhari Hill District Council (KHDC) organised the inaugural programme at the Tribal Cultural Institute (TCI) in hill town. Khagrachhari Hill District Council (KHDC) Chairman Monindra Lal Tripura inaugurated the festivities observed by all indigenous communities like Tripura, Marma and Chakma in their own traditions. The programme began with Baein (weaving competition) held at TCL with participation of indigenous women. A colorful rally, joined by several thousand people including Bangalees, marched the main road of the town. Different cultural organisation including Marma Aikka Parishad, Marma Unnayan Sangsad, Tripura Kallayan Sangsad, Zila Shilpakala Academy, Hill Moon Cultural Group and Hill Touch organised cultural programmaes patronized by KHDC and Khagrachhari district administration.
