2 held while stealing 50,000 primary textbooks

Joint forces yesterday caught a upazila primary education office staff and a truck driver when they were trying to take about 50 thousand primary school textbooks from the education office store room at Noyarhat in Lalmonirhat town without any official order. The arrestees are Shahidul Islam, office assistant cum storekeeper of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila primary education office, and truck driver Selim Reza. As Shahidul Islam and Selim Reza were loading in a truck about 50 thousand primary school textbooks from the store room of Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila primary education office in Lalmonirhat town, locals asked them about the matter, but they did not give any reply, police said. Local people informed Lalmonirhat municipality chairman Mosharof Hossain Rana, police station, deputy commissioner and joint forces of the matter. Joint forces caught the two red-handed and called Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila Primary Education Officer Anwarul Islam, but he failed to say anything about the 'transfer' of textbooks. Joint forces handed over the two arrestees to Sadar Police Station. Local people said office assistant Shahidul Islam had already sent three more truckloads of books from the store room in month last. Driver Selim Reza told police that Sahidul Islam hired him for carrying one truckload of books from the Lalmonirhat storeroom to Barisal. Sahidul had told the driver that the books would be taken to Barisal as per government order, he added.
