PBCP outlaw killed in shootout

A 'regional leader' of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddah) was killed and two policemen were injured in a shootout with police in Jhenidah in the early hours of yesterday.
Police recovered two bombs and a firearm with two bullets during the raid in Chandipur Bazar in Sadar upazila.
The dead was identified as Rezaul Islam alias Razu, 32, of Chandipur village in the Sadar upazila, police said.
Tipped-off, a team from Jhenidah Sadar police station arrested Rezaul, a regional leader of Janajuddah faction of PBCP from Lakhmikol village Saturday night.
Acting on his confession, they went to Chandipur village and dug out two powerful bombs and a gun.
Some of his followers who were waylaid them nearby, fired shots when police were digging the earth, ensuing a shootout. Razu was injured and taken to Jhenidah Sadar hospital where he died, police said.
Officer-in-charge Sayed Iqbal Ali of Sadar police station later said Razu was a 'regional commander' of PBCP, accused in 12 cases for extortion, murder and bomb explosion.
