Task Force starts work at KCC, meets officials

The Task Force began work formally in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) yesterday to make it a people-oriented institution. On the first day, the Task Force team headed by Brig. Gen. Ehteshamul Huq PSC held a closed door meeting with acting Mayor Moniruzzaman Moni and all departmental heads of KCC. The meeting lasted from 10-30am to 2-30 pm. The meeting was attended by high officials of army, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), joint forces and intelligence agency DGFI. The acting mayor and all high officials of KCC welcomed members of the Task Force team. When asked alter, Brig Gen Ehteshamul Huq told Journalists that they came to the corporation to discuss various matters. Later, acting Mayor Moniruzzaman Moni said that matters relating to gearing up works and measures to make KCC more transparent and welfare-oriented were discussed at length in the four-hour meeting with members of task force. The acting mayor said that matters relating to financial irregularities, corruption, sources of revenue earning, manpower strength and work of different ongoing projects also come up for discussion. The Task Force team members will sit separately with officials of each departments of the city corporation to get an idea about implementation of development projects, the acting mayor said. He said the task force would not waste any time to gear up work in all sections and take drastic action against corruption and irregularities, if detected. Commanding Officer of joint forces in Khulna Lt Col Kamrul Ahsan, Commanding Officer of Rab-6 Col Meftaul Karim and local high officials of Anti Corruption Commission and National Board of Revenue and he district administration were also present at the meeting. It may be mentioned here that KCC Mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman and chief engineer Liakat Ali Sharif are now in Khulna district jail in extortion cases.
