Thakurgaon massacre day today
Freedom fighters and different local organisations will today observe mass killing day in Thakurgaon district.
On this day in 1971, thousands of people of Jagannathpur, Gorea, Sukanpokhuri and Balia union under Sadar upazila left their homes to go to India to save their lives from the Pakistan occupation army and their local collaborators, Razakars.
Razakars of the area informed the Pakistani troops who killed about 3,000 innocent people including many children and women and buried them at the mass grave at Jhathibhanga under Sadar upazila of the district.
On the same day Razakars killed about 100 people of Pirganj municipality and Kosharaniganj, Khongaon and Shindura unions of Pirganj upazila while they were on the way to India.
The Pakistani army and their local collaborators killed about 1000 fleeing people after torture at Khuniadighi under Ranishankoil upazila. Most of the victims were women and children.
After Liberation War, thousands of human skulls and bones were recovered from the area.
