Charge framing against mayor Kamran now on May 5

A Sylhet court yesterday deferred charge framing against detained Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran in a case for keeping foreign liquor at his house. Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Amir Uddin, also the judge of anti-smuggling court in Sylhet, deferred it until May 5 as the defence lawyers submitted a prayer stating that the High Court had stayed the case for three months. The court earlier on March 17 had deferred it until yesterday as the defence lawyers prayed for. Kamran was brought to Sylhet from Comilla Central Jail and was put before the judge yesterday. Mayor Kamran was arrested in much talked 'kitchen market' graft case in April last year. He was released on interim bail issued by the High Court after a month. Kamran was caught for the second time on May 28 lastb year and within hours of his arrest, the joint forces recovered one bottle of foreign liquor, some documents of bank accounts, FDR worth Tk 35 lakh and others from his Chhararpar house in the city.
