25 Satkhira JMB men charge-sheeted
Twenty-five leaders and cadres of banned Islamist militant organization Jama'atul Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) have been charge-sheeted here in a case for subversive activities against the state.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, Sub-inspector (SI) Akhtaruzzaman of Satkhira Sadar police station submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Jjudicial Magistrate's court here on Thursday, over two years after filing of the case. They have been charged under Section 19 (8) and 2 (3) of the Special Powers Act of 1974.
Names of JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman, JMJB chief Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai and JMB military Chief Ataur Rahman Sunny were dropped from the charge sheet as they were executed in another case. Three other accused were dropped from the charge sheet as witnesses did not mention their names during investigation.
Sources in the investigation authorities said they are convinced that the accused were involved in subversive activities against the state.
The charge sheeted accused are Nasir uddin Dafadar, Monowar Hossain Ujjal, Maniruzzaman Munna, Nur Ali Member, Anisur Rahman Khokon, Gias Uddin, Mahbubur Rahman Liton, Billal Hossain, Asadul Haque, Ismail alias Habibur, Rakib Hasan alias Rusel alias Hafez Mahmud alias Mahmud, Montaz alias Momtaz, Abul Khair, Fakar Uddin Raju, Hajari, Nayeem, Syed alias Asaduzzaman, Abdul Ahad, Mamunur Rashid, Alamgir Hossain, Alhaj Riajul Islam alias Riaz Haji, Ashraf Ali, Shamim Hossain alias Galib alias Saiful Islam, Ruhul Quddus and Mahidul Islam alias Sahidullah.
The three dropped from the charge sheet are Hafizur Rahman, Mukul and Abdullah.
Of them, Montaz alias Momtaz, Abul Khair, Fakar Uddin Raju, Nayeem, Hajari, Alamgir Hossain, Saiful Islam and Syed alias Asaduzzaman are absconding, investigation authorities said.
The then officer-in-charge (OC) Golam Mohammad of Satkhira Sadar police station filed the case on October 1, 2005.
In the case, the complainant alleged that though government banned JMB and Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB), the accusec belonging to the outfits continued subversive activities and their illegal organisational activities leading to simultaneous bomb blasts at five spots in Satkhira town on August 17, 2005.
Soon after the incidents, police arrested some of the JMB activists and recovered diaries and note books and jehadi books from their possession.
Nasir uddin Dafadar, Monowar Hossain Ujjal, Maniruzzaman Munna, Nur Ali Member, Anisur Rahman Khokon, Gias Uddin, Mahbubur Rahman Liton, Billal Hossain, Asadul Haque, Ismail alias Habibur, Rakib Hasan alias Rusel alias Hafez Mahmud alias Mahmud Montaz alias Momtaz, Abul Khair, Fakar Uddin, Nayeem and Syed alias Asaduzzaman were also charge sheeted in another case filed in connection with the August 17 blast cases.
