Magistrate, AC, policemen hurt 5 villagers bullet-hit
Fifteen people including a magistrate, an assistant commissioner, a surveyor, policemen and villagers were wounded as people attacked the officials and law enforcers and police fired bullets to control the situation during an eviction operation at Bolora Bazaar under Harirampur upazila in Manikganj on Sunday.
The people also damaged a DC pool vehicle. Police fired four round bullets on the people as five villagers received bullet wounds. Tension was prevailing in the area, police and locals said.
Deputy Commissioner Ataur Rahman said First Class Magistrate ASM Habibur Rahman Hakim, AC (Land) Ershad Ahsan, Surveyor Nazmul Alam along with police force went to the spot at noon for demarcation of the place where 25-30 illegal shops were evicted six month ago.
The people attacked them with sticks and at one stage the magistrate directed the policemen to fire to control the situation, he said.
Police Superintendent Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hasan said the policemen, getting direction from the magistrate, fired three rounds of bullets and one round of tear gas cell. Three persons were injured he said.
However, the locals said five people received bullet wounds.
Surveyor Nazmul Alam and bullet-hit villagers Anwar Hossain, Milon, and Anwar were admitted to Harirampur Upazila Health Complex, locals said.
Vice-President of Bolora Mosque Committee Mustafizur Rahman told journalists at Manikganju Press Club that the court issued a temporary injunction on the land as there is a case between the mosque Committee and one Badal Mian.
Mustafizur Rahman alleged that the on-duty magistrate and assistant commissioner misbehaved with him when he showed the injunction paper.
The magistrate, on the other hand, said he does not know about the injunction. He also denied the allegation of misbahaviour.
