Case Against Tayebur
Naraji petition against final report
Complainant Hafiz Sheikh filed a naraji petition with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Khuna on Sunday afternoon rejecting the final report of an extortion case against detained Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor Tayebur rahman and 12 others.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahabubur Rahman has ordered Metropolitan Magistrate Iqbal Hossain to initiate an enquiry into the allegation and submit a report on his findings shortly.
Fish trader Hafiz Sheikh of Moilapota kitchen market filed a case with the court on March 9 accusing the mayor and 12 others of realising Tk 7.8 lakh in last nine years as tolls in the name of providing him and other fish traders with various business facilities.
The KCC mayor and other accused neither kept their commitment nor returned the money, the complainant said in his petition to court.
The court asked Khulna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zakir Hossain to investigate into the allegation and the OC assigned Sub-Inspector Tipu Sultan for it.
Tipu Sultan submitted final report on April 12 saying that he did not get any evidence in support of extortion of Tk 78 lakh by the accused.
The complainant said in his naraji petition that SI Tipu Sultan did not at all investigate the case as he was biased by some of the accused.
