Bangali house burnt, 3 indigenous youths held
Aggrieved indigenous men set fire to the house of a Bangalee settler at Bhai Bhai-Dubhai Colony area under Baghaichhari upazila in the hill district yesterday night.
Police arrested three indigenous youths on charge of setting fire.
The three arrestees are Sunil Chakma, 24, Nobel Chakma alias Nishi, 23, and Ratan Chakma, 25. They are from Gangarammukh area under Baghaichhari upazila in Rangamati.
Baghaichhari police said the three indigenous youths went to Bhai Bhai Dubhai Colony area and set fire on the house of Liakat Ali, burning it to ashes with all properties when locals caught the three youths from the area and handed them over to police.
When contacted, a relative of one of the accused said the three youths went there to see the fire and help the victims. The villager caught them as they are from ethnic people, he said.
Earlier on April 20, criminals burnt to ashes at least 132 houses of both Bengali and Indigenous people at Baghaihat (a border area of Khagrachhari) under Baghaichhari upazila in Rangamati hill district.
