3 major roads to be built in Rangamati, Bandarban
Hossain Zillur says at Rangamati
Commerce and Education Adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman yesterday said the caretaker government has undertaken different development programmes for creating infrastructure to bring Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) under sustainable development programmes.
He was addressing as chief guest a view exchange meeting at Tribal Culture Institute at Rangamati.
Hossain Zillur Rahman said his ministry will take steps to construct roads in three border areas -- one in Sazek union under Baghaichhari upazila, one at Thegamukh under Barkal upazila in Rangamati district and one in Nikkhyangchhari upazila in Bandarban district.
It will open up scope for 'border trading' in Rangamati and Bandarban districts, he said.
Necessary steps will be taken to help capitalisation by providing loans for setting up industry in CHT, he said.
Boarding schools will be launched in CHT to prevent dropout of children, he said adding that a speedboat will be provided for the education officers in Rangamati so that they can regularly inspect all the schools and help maintain standard of teaching there.
In the meeting, the teachers demanded inclusion of all the registered schools into monthly pay order (MPO) and enactment of specific rules for recognition and registration of the schools to save them from harassment.
Raja Devasish Roy, special assistant to the chief adviser, and Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma (Santu Larma), chairman of CHT Regional Council attended as special guests at the meeting presided over by Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Md Nurul Amin.
Civil society leaders, professionals, businessmen and government high officials attended the meeting.
