Language hero Syed Ashraf laid to rest in Patuakhali

Language Movement veteran and a key organiser of the Liberation War in Patuakhali, former lawmaker Syed Ashraf Hossain was laid to eternal rest beside his mother's grave at Dhulia village under Baufal upazila in the district yesterday. He passed away at Eastern Hospital at Lalmatia in the capital on Saturday night at the age of 78. His body was brought to Patuakhali from Dhaka yesterday and kept first in front of Patuakhali Shahid Smriti Pathagar and then on the premises of central Shahid Minar in front of the municipality office in the town where political, social and cultural leaders and different organisations showed their last respect. At about 11:30am his namaz-e-janaza was held at central Eidgah where several hundred people including Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner AGM Mir Moshiur Alam, former MP Shahjahan Mia, ASM Feroz took part. The deceased was buried with state honour beside his mother's grave in their family graveyard at Dhulia village in Bauphal. Patuakhali district Muktijoddha Sangsad will keep its flag at half-mast for the next three days to pay respect to the Language Movement veteran and freedom fighter. Ashraf Hossain left behind his wife, only son and thousands of friends and admirers to mourn his death.
