KCC executive engr held in graft case
Police yesterday arrested executive engineer of Water Works Department of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Md Abdul Hannan, from Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) headquarters.
The arrested KCC engineer is one of the 13 accused in a case filed on April 20 for misappropriation of Tk 10 crore filed with Khulna Sadar Police Station .
The procurement officer of KCC's Municipal Services Project (MSP), SM Hafizur Rahman, who was suspended on charge of corruption in September last year, filed the case against detained city mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman, his wife Laila Rahman and eleven others accusing them of misappropriating Tk 10 crore in the name of purchasing chlorine gas required for water purification.
Sub-inspector Azfaruzzaman of Khulna Sadar Police Station who is investigating the case, said the executive engineer was arrested on the basis of evidence to prove his involvement in the misappropriation.
The arrested executive engineer was arrested when he went to KMP headquarters to talk with the police commissioner about solution of a social problem.
He was sent to Khulna district jail through Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in the afternoon.
Khulna mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman and suspended chief engineer Liakat Ali Sharif, who are also accused in this case, are already in jail.
