Ex-BNP MP Habib's property attached
Police yesterday attached the moveable property of former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib, who is a charge-sheeted accused in the case for killing Satkhira district BNP vice president ABM Altaf Hossain.
Earlier, Judge Ashish Ranjan Das of the District and Sessions Judge's Court ordered attachment of all moveable property of the former lawmaker as he was absent before the trial court on April 20 for hearing of the case.
Habibul Islam Habib is one of the 15 charge-sheeted accused in Altaf Hossain murder case.
Satkhira district BNP president Habibul Islam Habib was elected from Satkhira-1 (Tala-Kalaroa) constituency in 2001.
Altaf Hossain, also Tala upazila BNP president, was killed when criminals hurled bombs at him at Panchrasta intersection at Patkelghata Bazar in Tala upazila on May 4 in 2004, police said. BNP worker Habibur Rahman was also killed in the attack.
Later the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Investigation Officer of the case, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sukha Ranjan Samaddar of the CID, submitted charge sheet against 15 people including Habibul Islam Habib showing him absconding to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court at Satkhira over four years of the incident.
Other charge sheeted accused are Golam Mostafa, Hafizul Islam, Rasheduzzaman Raju, Shib Pada Sarkar, Ahmmad Ali, Ashraful Haque, Shahidul Islam, Pranab Ghosh Bablu, Tushar Kumar Pal, Prakash Sarkar, Badruzzaman, Mostafa alias, Abu Hena Alam and Debendra Nath Biswas.
Later the case was transferred to District and Sessions Judge's Court for trial.
Habib has been absconding since declaration of emergency in January last year.
