'Ensure equal rights for physically challenged people'
Speakers at a workshop yesterday called on the government to take necessary steps, including implementation of Disability Act 2001, to ensure equal rights for physically challenged people to health, education, employment and information.
They also called on society to think about the issues concerning the people with disability and the need to develop infrastructure for them, train them and provide employment opportunities for them.
Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) and Manikganj Protibondhi Unnoyon Parisad (MPUP) in association with Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) jointly organised the workshop at the conference room of Manikganj deputy commissioner. A total of 40 government officials took part in the workshop.
Manikganj Deputy Commissioner Ataur Rahman was present as chief guest and Superintendent of Police Sheikh Muhammad Maruf Hasan and Razia Akter Banu were special guests.
DC Ataur sought cooperation from the CRP to run a school for disabled people. He mentioned that the district administration is agreed to set up the school but he sought a numbers of teachers.
The SP said the disabled people are not burden of our country or society and the people have to think. They are part of our family, he said.
Dr Mazahar Mannan, Head of Medical Unit of CRP, SM Ali Hasnain Fatne, project coordinator of MJF, and MPUP Coordinator Masudul Haque spoke, among others, on the occasion.
The urged people to come forward to development the disable people.
