Tk 15 lakh medicine stolen from govt hospitals recovered
Medicine stolen from different government hospitals worth over Tk 15 lakh was recovered from a house here yesterday afternoon.
Two persons were also arrested in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) raided Firingibazar Bridgeghat area in the afternoon.
They recovered the medicine kept in 100 cartons from a tin-shed rented house of one Chotan Baidya, 55, at No 3 Laijjyaghata at around 6:00pm.
DB officials said Chotan Baidya, owner of a pharmacy in Firingibazar and Nirmal Biswas, 25, stored medicine of different government hospitals inside the house.
However, both of them managed to flee.
Later, DB arrested Urmi Baidya, 40, wife of Chotan Baidya and Laksmi Biswas, 25, wife of Nirmal Biswas from the house.
The total value of the seized medicine would be abot Tk 15 lakh, said DB assistant commissioner Ashiqul.
Ashiqul said the two unscrupulous traders have been marketing the medicine for a long time after stealing those from different government hospitals and health complexes through a syndicate.
