Balashi rly ferry restored

Our Correspondent, Gaibandha
The railway ferry service between Balashi and Bahaduarabad terminals resumed yesterday after five months as the ferry route turned navigable due to increase in water level of Jamuna. The service remained suspended since November 30 alst year following deposit of silt in the route and fall in Jamuna water level. A total of 70 wagons carrying rice, fertiliser and other goods were ferried from Balashi ghat to Bahadurabad ghat yesterday. The railway authorities have meanwhile decided to auction passenger ferry vessels anchored at Balashi ghat, sources said. The vessels are decaying as passenger ferry service between the terminals remained suspended for several years, ignoring demand from people.
