117 polling centres listed in SCC
As part of preparatory works for Sylhet City Corporation elections expected to be held in July, election officials have sent a list of 117 polling centres to all concerned including the ward commissioners and assistant registration officers.
The draft list of 117 polling centres was earlier sent to the Election Commission, Deputy Election Commissioner, Sylhet division-Khondaker Mizanur Rahman said yesterday afternoon.
“In view of the rise in the number of voters and areas under the city corporation, we have increased the number of polling centres to 117 while there were 79 centres in the last SCC polls of 2003,” he said, adding, “We will receive appeals on those, if any, till May 19 and those will be disposed off by May 25.”
The number of voters on the final list stood at 2,56,000 this time against 1,82,000 in the first city corporation elections held in 2003.
