2 Rab men among 17 hurt in B'baria clash
At least 17 persons including two members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) were injured during a chase and counter chase between villagers and Rab members at Bramhangram village under Kasba upazila in the district Saturday night.
The injured Rab members are sub-inspector (SI) Jakir and constable Imran.
Tipped off, a Rab team went to the village to arrest 'listed smuggler' Hannan Pathan and his group at around 11:30 pm, police said yesterday.
Sensing Rab's presence, the gang cried out for villagers' help.
The villagers rushed to the spot and attacked the Rab members. To save themselves, Rab members fired five shots, which ensued a chase and counter chasing. At least 15 villagers were injured, police added.
In the melee, the smugglers gang managed to flee.
Shubbrato Chakma, Rab Sub Inspector (SI), filed a case accusing 11 person including Hannan Pathan.
Anwar Hossain, officer in-charge (OC) of Kasba police station, said Rab arrested two villagers--Dhan Mia and Mostofa Pathan.
