I watched BBC Songlap on 10 May, 2008. There was a discussion on Article 70 of our constitution. We know that Article 70 is very important. It is Anti Defection Law.
Article 70 is concerned about “Vacation of Seat on registration”. It is stated in Article 70 that the seat of a person, elected as a member of parliament by election in which he was nominated on behalf a political party, will be vacant if he votes against his party. It is noticeable that the leader or prime minister has exclusive power over the members of his party. S/he can exercise this power whenever she wants.
From overall discussion, we can say that Article 70 of our constitution should be amended but not totally abolished. If Article 70 is totally abolished, then we may not have a stable government.
