Political reforms

The two major political parties, accustomed to autocratic one-person rule, are in no mood to cooperate with the EC and the CTG before the coming general elections. Who would be the losers? The voters have gained enough experience for decades to detect the grey areas in past regimes, and the citizens wish to return to the past policy of "the winner takes all". Pakistan has set the changes in motion, and the Americans are hotly debating the need for change. But no reforms policies are coming from our political parties. One single theme is not enough, release our leader! We became free in mere nine months. We have now paid the price, with decades of rudderless voyages. It is time to set new bearings, and start afresh. The term of the old order has ended--retire honourably. But the AL and the BNP are nor accustomed to outside dictations (notice the vacant opposition seats in the JS during the past regimes). Street andolon with violence is not enough-- parliament has to be run in the normal manner. Why are we not accommodative, and suffer from impatience and intolerance? The feudal, Zamindari trait (the commoners have no voice) and the absence of democratic practices inside the political parties are evident. Sea changes are required, but the politicians are sticking to old practices (in this IT age). Progress negatively, or through periodic changes? Why top party leaders are treated as immortals? How the next and young generation come into the mainstream of governance? What are the credentials of the standby leaders? Chant mantras? It needs tremendous extra energies to erect a new foundation in public life (the super-structures take-less time, and are semi-automatic). The 1/11 revolution has set the stage-- we should not miss this change (when we are approaching 10 percent growth rate, as per official estimate). Our rural workers work hard and honestly, regardless of political vicissitudes--our hats off to them! Today political credibility is at stake, and the old guards are resisting change for the better. We are dynamic, but in a static way---no progress due to old age stubbornness. The old order has to yield to the new order-- the child is the father of men!
