Teaching science -new approach
I have gone through Mr. Rahman's article (Aug:16) with considerable interest.
However, I do not believe that both the PI as well as JiTT method can be applicable in Bangladeshi schools or colleges; given the facilities that are needed for this learning method.
The PI method can be adopted here, provided that evening home preparation can be done regularly by the student: a difficult task given the prolonged and un-programmed load shedding in Bangladesh. However, for JiTT method of learning, access to web page is needed through computer, both at school and in the student's home. This is simply not possible in Bangladesh today for (almost) any school or college.
A simplified format of the PI method can be adopted. To some extant some schools may be following a somewhat similar approach. However, to popularise this method of learning, our education officials must be made familiar with it, and they should in turn encourage the schools and colleges to adopt it. This teaching method should also be taught to teachers undergoing training at various Teacher Training Institutes in Bangladesh.
