Our unpredictable players
Bangladesh cricket team continues to play unpredictably. A few wins against Pakistan, Australia, India, New Zealand etc. worked as tonic and magic for the team and the whole country. It seems to have satisfied their appetite for the 'kill'. It bolstered the morale and confidence of the team for the time being. Then they became complacent and performed poorly. So, we are yet to get our money's worth in terms of expenditure, electric bill and time consumed for watching cricket.
Previously, most of the players were Dhaka boys coming from educated middle class or upper middle class families. They were not professionals in the real sense. Now they have become selectors, managers etc. I wonder if there is any communication and confidence gap between the players and the officials. This may hamper the performance of the players. The performance of the present team is much superior to those players playing in late Pakistan and early Bangladesh days. They are technically better than their predecessors. Sukumar (Narayanganj), Latif, Dulu Affendi( Narayanganj) Daulattuzaman, Altaf Hossain, Hira, Tanna, Raqibul, Ayaz, Neaz Mohammad and others used to play East Pakistan club cricket and early Bangladesh cricket.
There have been many changes in the selectors and officials in the last few years. As a cricket lover, I would urge upon the authorities concerned to look into the 'rapport building' factor between the players and officials. We wish the team all success. Entertain the viewers and play to our money's worth!
