Over 1,800 AL men resign in Patuakhali
Over 1800 leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organisations in its Galachipa unit yesterday tendered resignation en masse protesting the nomination of Golam Moula Roni, a member of the party in ward no. 54 in Dhaka city, to contest the upcoming parliamentary election from Patuakhali-3 constituency (Galachipa-Dasmina).
Those who resigned are members of the parties' units in upazila, 16 unions all 144 wards committees.
Five hundred leaders of Jubo League, 200 of Mohila Awami League and 200 of Shechasebok League also resigned.
Earlier on Monday, 15 members of Galachipa upazilz Awami League submitted their resignation letters to the district leaders.
Harun or Rashid, president of Galachipa upazila AL, confirmed the en masse resignation and gave photocopies of their letters to local pressmen.
Presidents and secretaries of the party units also resigned, he said.
In their resignation letters they said the central AL leadership selected candidate avoiding suggestion of the local body.
The local AL at a meeting on November 8 selected party central leader and former state minister AKM Jahangir Hossain as party candidate from Patuakhali-3.
