Extremists to be kept contained, says DIG
The DIG of Khulna Range Asaduzzaman Mian yesterday said fugitive extremists who have taken shelter in the neighbouring country would not be able to reappear ahead of elections.
“My forces in Khulna division are fully alert against reappearance of fugitives”, DIG said while exchanging views with local journalists at the conference room of Khulna Police Superintendent Belalur Rahman.
The DIG did not admit reappearance of absconding extremists in some parts of Khulna district to establish their control over their strongholds.
Press reports however said a new underground party--'Nabolap' (Naya Banglar Lal Pataka)--has emerged in south western districts with its base at Morrelganj upazila in Bagerhat district.
Police arrested six of its operatives last month from Morrelganj while they were planning a criminal operation in Khulna. About 5000 leaflets were recovered.
KMP Commissioner Helauddin Badri assured political leader of all possible steps to check return of fugitive extremists at any cost to ensure a free and fair election and security of life of candidates.
The Khulna Range DIG also claimed recovery of 75 firearms, 56 bombs and arrest of 75 listed extremists so far during the ongoing special operations, launched last month.
But reports said extremists are continuing to demand toll from businessmen in Khulna city and threatening them for non-compliance.
