Speakers tell Satkhira discussion
Speakers at a discussion yesterday said the media can play a more effective role to ensure a free and fair election by unveiling the misdeeds of musclemen and black money holders.
They urged the political parties not to nominate the musclemen and black money holders to contest in the upcoming parliamentary and upazila polls for the interest of the people and also for institutionalize democracy.
The discussion on “A free and fair polls can be ensured freeing musclemen and black money holders by publishing neutral and objective news” organised by Satkhira district chapter of Bangladesh Manabadhikar Bastabayan Sangstha held at Bar association auditorium. with its president AKM Shahidullah in the chair.
The musclemen and black money holders try to influence politics as their aim is to earn money through corrupt means by using political power.
Journalists through their writings can unveil the real face of musclemen and black money holders and create awareness among the people, they said, adding that there is no alternative to free politics from the control of musclemen and black money holders to institutionalise democracy and develop the country.
Satkhira Superintendent of Police Abu Sufiyan was the chief guest while Satkhira pourasava Mayor Sheikh Ashraful Haque, District Information Officer Nurul Huda, Public Prosecutor advocate Tapan Kumar Chakraborty and former Bar association President advocate Abdul Rahim were special guests.
District Awami League General Secretary Nazrul islam, district BNP Member Secretary Samsuzzoha Bablu, Workers Party Secretary Mustafa Lutfullah, JSD General Secretary Obaidus Sultan Bablu, NAP Secretary Kazi Saidur Rahman, journalist Abu Ahmed, Kalyan Bannerjee, Mizanur Rahman, M Kamruzzaman, NGO activists Madhab Dutta and Hafizur Rahman Masum addressed, among others.
