Razzak Ali's return irks Khulna BNP
The prospect of former Speaker Sheikh Razzak Ali's returning to BNP on condition of nomination from Khulna-2 (Sadar-Sonadanga) or Khulna-6 (Koira-Paikgacha) constituency for December 29 elections has given rise to discontent among party leaders and workers in Khulna.
Sources said Sheikh Razzak Ali, a former leader of BNP, has got 'green signal' for nomination from one of the two constituencies if he joins BNP.
Leaders and workers will not accept Razzak Ali's nomination from either of the two seats if he joins BNP on this condition, said central Vice President of Chhatra Dal Shafiqul Alam Tuhin and Jubo Dal leader Arifuzzaman Apu.
Despite several attempts, Sheikh Razzak Ali could not be reached for confirmation of his joining BNP on condition of securing nomination from Khulna-2 or Khulna-6.
Earlier he collected his nomination paper with hope to get Awami League-led 14-party alliance ticket for Khulna-6 constituency. But Awami League has already confirmed nomination of advocate Sohrab Ali Sana from there.
After failing to get nomination in 2001 general elections, Sheikh Razzak Ali filed nomination papers from Khulna-2 and Khulna-6 as an independent candidate challenging Khaleda Zia's leadership, party insiders said.
Later he withdrew his candidature and remained isolated from BNP till joining LDP, they said.
When contacted, Nazrul Islam Manju, member secretary of Khulna unit of four-party alliance, yesterday said Khaleda Zia had given him green signal for nomination from Khulna-2.
