Corruption in education sector
Though this sector receives the highest budgetary allocation each year in national budget, there is a shortage of quality educational institutions in Bangladesh. A significant portion of the allocation is not properly utilized owing to massive corruption in the education sector. Dr Akbar Ali Khan has rightly said, "Corruption in education sector is the root of all kinds of corruption, and it fuels corruption in other sectors."
Many government organisations monitoring and aiding smooth flow of educational activities like SHIKKHA BHABON, NCTB, Secondary & Higher Secondary Education Boards etc. are the places of corruption in which no work is done without money.
Our honourable teachers, especially hailing from rural educational institutions, face corruption during sanctioning of MPO, retirement money, and procuring educational materials etc. Although it is an open secret, the authorities concerned have not yet taken any effective measures to curb corruption in the sector.
Graft has pervaded at all levels of education, from primary to university level. A student who faces corruption in every sphere of his/ her academic life considers it a norm of social system. Students are left without values and integrity. As a result, it persuades them to be corrupt when they work in different organisations. It is difficult to combat corruption emanating from dishonesty, lack of values and ethics.
So it's my earnest request to the government & the ACC to take necessary steps immediately to eliminate corruption in the education sector. Corruption in any other sector can be curbed in four to five years, but it will take some generations to eliminate corruption in the education sector.
