No war criminals!

It's not only a matter of shame but a national tragedy that an anti national and reactionary entity like Jamaat-e -Islami is still allowed to do politics in Bangladesh. This is not an anti-democratic stance but a matter of principle. Even if we accept the fact that there is nothing final in war and politics, the Jamaat's position is unique in Bangladesh. As a long standing reactionary and a fanatic religio-political entity, the Jamaat contains the gene of the present day Taliban. They bloodied their hands by participating in the genocide in 1971 and never repented afterwards. This is a well documented truth that Jamaat's rise in the political horizon of Bangladesh was not an accident. Every other political party is equally responsible for this. In the changed political climate of Bangladesh they are again being pampered by a non-political government. This administration is giving lip service to the values of the liberation movement and at the same time encouraging an anti- national ultra reactionary religious party. They are telling the same lies since 1971 to rehabilitate themselves in politics. They are using a tactic used by the Nazis that if a lie is told time and again it becomes a truth! We do not expect anything better from them.

I was stunned to see Ali Ahsan Mozaheed telling the newsmen that "No war criminal was there in 1971...". I was born in 1974. When we were in school our text books carried distorted history. Even then we know who are the war criminals through the records published in papers, books and documentaries. We know who were the heroes and who were the villains. Imtiaz Uttara

I just read the news item that the Jamaat denied their role in the genocide and other anti-liberation activities. This should be the biggest joke in the history of post liberation Bangladesh. This kind of utterances are an insult to the family members of the victims of Jamaat's activities in 1971. The army chief , while honouring the freedom fighters in a gathering, clearly mentioned about the need for holding the trial of the anti-liberation forces who were involved in the genocide. Do not be naïve. The Awami League and the BNP are the patrons of war criminals because they had understanding with the Jamaat in the past, forgetting everything else, and did not take any step to try the war criminals when they were in power. Besides, the Awami League signed a treaty with the mullas and the BNP ruled the country with the Jamaat. So, what is the point of raising a hue and cry now? Mashud London
