Bus drags motorcycle nearly half a km after Jashore crash; 2 killed

Two people were killed as a bus collided head-on with a motorcycle on Jashore-Khulna highway in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore today.

The accident occurred around 11:30am in the Urotola area.

The deceased were identified as Amjad Gazi, 45, of Mashrahati area under Noapara municipality; and Asiron Bibi, 55, of Lakshmipur village in Abhaynagar, said Abhaynagar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Aminul Islam.

Police and locals said a bus of Garai Paribahan was heading towards Khulna from Jashore around 11:30am. Amjad and Asiron were travelling towards Jashore from Noapara on a motorcycle.

When they reached Urotola area, the motorcycle collided head-on with the bus.

Following the collision, the bus dragged the motorcycle along with the two for nearly half a kilometre before coming to a halt.

Locals rescued the duo and took them to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Dr Ferdous Shanto of Abhaynagar Health Complex said one of the victims had died before being brought to the hospital, while the other died on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
