Allowances for retired BB employees
Recently the government has passed Senior Citizen Act, 2013 recognising people aged 60 years or above as senior citizens in order to provide them with various facilities like medical allowance, old home facility, concessions in state owned buses, trains, and national air lines, etc. as given to senior citizens in developed countries and also in neighbouring India.
Bangladesh Bank provides medical facilities to its retired employees. Retired employees aged 65 or above get tk.1000/- as medical allowance and retired employees below that age get tk. 700/-. Since the government considers 60 and above aged people senior citizens, the Bangladesh Bank should also consider giving tk.1000/- to its retired employees starting from age 60.
