Five hurt as SUST students clash with locals

At least five people including students were injured after clashes broke out between students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and the locals in Sylhet's Akhalia area yesterday evening.

The clash erupted around 5:00pm as a group of locals got into an altercation with a security guard of the university after being barred from entering the campus.

Police went to the spot and brought the situation under control by 6:30pm.

Saiful Alam Rukon, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, said, "The students have gathered inside the campus and locals have taken up positions in different points around the campus. Additional police have been deployed in the area."
