Jubo League man shot dead during Chandpur factional clash
A Jubo League activist was shot dead in a factional clash of ruling Awami League in Chandpur's Matlab upazila today.
The deceased was Mobarak Hossain, 48. His son Imran Hossain, 18, also sustained bullet injuries in the clash, reports a correspondent from Chandpur.
The victim's elder brother Amir Hossain said Mohonpur union unit AL organised a rally in Mathavanga area in the upazila around 3:00pm.
"My brother along with some other party activists were heading toward the rally venue. When they reached Bahadurpur, their rival group attacked them," said Amir, who claimed himself as an eye-witness.
Followers of Mohonpur union parishad Chairman Kazi Mizan carried out the attack, triggering the clash between the two groups, he alleged.
At least three people, including Mobarak and his son Imran, received bullet injuries in the clash. They were rushed to local health complex where on-duty doctors declared Mobarak dead. The rest two were shifted to Dhaka for better treatment, said Amir.
Contacted, Kazi Mizan, however, denied the allegation and said neither he nor any of his followers were involved with the incident.
Confirming the incident, Chandpur's additional superintendent of police Sudipta Roy said a person was arrested from the spot.
"We are investigating into the incident," the police official added.
