Thief calls 999, asks to be arrested
"Hello, is this the police control room? I broke into a shop, but they saw me, they are going to beat me to death," a frightened voice said on a 999 call around 4:15am today.
"Arrest me … save me," 25-year-old Ridoy said.
He pleaded the national emergency service hotline to immediately send police to a shop near the passport office on Khanka Road in the capital's Kadamtali area.
The 999 authorities immediately informed the incident to Kadamtali Police Station, and a team of law enforcers rushed to the spot and rescued the youth just as locals caught him and started beating him, Anwar Sattar, inspector (media) of the national emergency service, told The Daily Star.
Ridoy was later given first aid at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later taken to the police station, he said.
A case was filed against him in this regard.
