Physical, mental health and arts to be mandatory from class 4: Education minister
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said textbooks will be revised, and physical, mental health, and arts education will be made mandatory from class four.
He made the announcement at a views-exchange meeting with officials of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board at its office in Dhaka, according to a press release sent by the ministry.
"The prime minister is giving the highest priority to education and stressed the need to make textbooks time-appropriate. Textbooks must be revised,” the press release quoted the minister saying.
Emphasising the importance of greater attention to the physical and mental health of young learners, he said physical education, mental health, and arts education will be made mandatory for all students from class four.
Evaluation process will also be introduced for these subjects.
“Curriculum formulation and textbook revision will be carried out by experts. No party consideration will be made in this regard,” Milon added.
The meeting was chaired by NCTB Chairman (additional charge) Md Mahbubul Haque Patwary. Officials from different wings of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board were also present.
