BGB, locals foil alleged BSF push-in attempt in Joypurhat
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly attempted to push three individuals, including two women, into Bangladesh through the Paschim Ramkrishnapur border in Joypurhat Sadar upazila early Saturday.
However, the attempt was foiled due to the vigilance of local residents and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), said Nayeb Subedar Shamsuzzaman, camp commander of the Bhutiapara BOP, Joypurthat.
Currently, the three individuals remain stranded at the zero line of the border.
The incident took place at around 4:00am.
According to locals and BGB sources, BSF personnel turned off a border light post in the early hours of the morning and tried to push an elderly man and two women into Bangladesh. Sensing the movement, local residents patrolling the border detained them and informed the BGB.
Nayeb Subedar Shamsuzzaman said, “BSF attempted to push in three people. With the assistance of the local public, we have foiled that attempt.”
While BGB has held flag meetings with BSF twice, no solution has been reached in connection with the incident.
"If they are found to be Bangladeshi citizens, they will be accepted following proper legal procedures," a BGB official said.
