US Embassy issues security alert ahead of Bangladesh election

The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a security alert for American citizens, advising them to practice vigilance.

In an alert posted on its verified Facebook page today, the US Embassy said Bangladesh's Election Commission announced that the next parliamentary election and a national referendum will be held simultaneously on February 12, 2026.

Political rallies and demonstrations may become more frequent and intense as the election date approaches.

"U.S. citizens should practice vigilance and remember that demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence," the alert said.

It advised the Americans to avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings.

It asked them to be aware of their surroundings, monitor local media for updates, avoid crowds and demonstrations.
