A star-studded benefit concert in Los Angeles has raised $5.4 million for children’s medical aid in Palestine and Sudan, bringing together music, poetry and political solidarity under the banner of Artists for Aid.

The third edition of the Artists for Aid concert, held on Saturday (January 10) at the Shrine Auditorium, raised funds for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) and the Sudanese American Physicians Association. The event was organised by Canadian Sudanese artiste Mustafa the Poet and co-hosted by supermodel Bella Hadid and actor Pedro Pascal.

Addressing the audience, Mustafa said an artist’s true power lies in empathy rather than technical skill, a sentiment echoed throughout the evening. Hadid, opening the programme, highlighted the humanitarian focus of the concert, stressing solidarity with families in Palestine and Sudan facing loss, displacement and violence.

The lineup featured performances by Alex G, Blood Orange, Clairo, Daniel Caesar, Jazmine Sullivan, Lucy Dacus, Omar Apollo, Shawn Mendes, Snoh Aalegra, Tamino and others. Chappell Roan made a surprise appearance during Lucy Dacus’s set, while Mendes performed a duet with Maggie Rogers.

Poets Noor Hindi and Safia Elhillo delivered some of the night’s most direct reflections on the ongoing crises. The PCRF later confirmed that two children evacuated from Gaza for medical treatment were present at the concert.

While similar benefit efforts have previously supported Palestine, the event marked one of the largest cultural fundraisers to date for Sudan amid its ongoing civil war.
