Photo: Star Photo: Star In her press statement on 1 March, Khaleda Zia, chairperson of BNP, went on threatening the government of catastrophic consequences unless, what she termed, 'genocide' is stopped. With the verdict of Sayedee's death sentence the Jamaat and Shibir went berserk, killing policemen and people of other political beliefs, and even burning the houses of other faiths. But the BNP blames the government for the countrywide anarchy: arson and killing that are being carried out by the Jamaat and Shibir with extreme ferocity. The BNP is in fact adding fuel to the Jamaat's fire that is already burning the country and throwing the whole nation into total anarchy and unrest, purportedly to cash in on its design to scotch the trial or pull the government down. By taking cudgels for Jamaat, the BNP is betraying the truth, the truth for which all and sundry at Shabagh, Dhaka and in every district of the country have been protesting. They are demanding highest punishment of those who worked against the birth of this nation, who abetted the Pakistani forces to kill three million Bangalees and violated our two lakh mothers and sisters. BNP's going against the stream is ill-conceived and condemnable.
