‘A certain party trying to promote no vote ahead of referendum’
National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today alleged that a certain political party is using various tactics to advocate for “no vote” in the referendum, slated for February 12.
“Those [parties] who never wanted reforms are now trying to take a stand for ‘no vote’. Those who advocate for ‘no vote’ do not want the welfare of the country,” he said while inaugurating the “NCP caravan” in Dhaka this afternoon as part of NCP’s campaign for the referendum.
He alleged that the said party is promising “Family Card” without explaining where the funds will come from. “It will be seen that only party members will receive these cards and an additional tax burden will be imposed on the people.”
The NCP leader added, “Earlier, the Awami League government plundered the country by promising rice for Tk 10 a kg.”
He said NCP believes that the 11-party alliance will win the election and form the government.
He added, “If you [voters] don’t like us, don't vote [for us] but vote for ‘yes’ in the referendum. Otherwise, the government will only change -- one party will leave, another party will come. Hasina’s fascist system will return as before. There will be no reform.”
After the inaugural speech, Nahid and NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud inaugurated the campaign caravan outside NCP's Bangla Motor office at 4:00pm.
NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb and other leaders were present at the time.
