Chattogram lose in-form Rossington to finger injury
Chattogram Royals’ in-form opener Adam Rossington will take no further part in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after sustaining a finger injury, the franchise’s team manager Nafees Iqbal confirmed in a video release on Saturday.
The English right-hander arrived in the BPL in prolific form, having finished as the highest run-getter in the Nepal Premier League, and wasted little time making an impact for the Royals. He struck an unbeaten, match-winning 60 in just his second appearance and has since registered two more half-centuries, propelling him to the top of the BPL run-scoring charts.
In six matches, the 32-year-old amassed 258 runs at an average of 64.50 and a strike rate of 139.45.
Rossington’s rich vein of form has played a significant role in Chattogram’s rise to the top of the points table, with the side securing five wins from seven matches. His opening partnership with Mohammad Naim has been a cornerstone of the Royals’ batting success.
Explaining the circumstances behind Rossington’s departure, Nafees said:
“Adam Rossington, our wicket-keeper and opener, received a blow on his small finger in his left-hand when facing Binura [Fernando] in the last match. He has a history on injury on the same area; he had a fracture before in the same place. And after the impact, he was in painful state. We’ve done an X-Ray since then and we found he has suffered some damages there. Unfortunately, he will have rest for the next two weeks. So, he have to send him back. We are thinking about replacements for him. We wish Adam Rossington all the best.”
