Committee formed to recruit NHRC chairperson, commissioners

Law ministry has formed a six-member selection committee to recommend appointments for the posts of chairperson and members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The committee, headed by Justice Farah Mahbub of the Appellate Division, will chair a meeting at the Bangladesh Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 6:00pm tomorrow, the ministry said in a notice today.

The committee has been formed in line with the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance, 2025.

Other members of the committee are: the cabinet secretary, Dhaka University law professor Shahnaz Huda, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Abdul Hasib Chowdhury, Jatiya Press Club President Hasan Hafiz, and former additional chief engineer of the Public Works Department, Kuboleswar Tripura.

In November 2024, members of the NHRC appointed during the Awami League’s tenure resigned following the formation of Prof Yunus-led interim government in August that year.
