Controlling hartal-related lawlessness

The opposition-called hartal started from 27th October, but vandalising of private cars, trucks, buses, etc. started from 26th October afternoon. I think the government should call the armed forces and tell them to ensure law and order till the election is completed and the new elected government installed. There are photographs in the dailies from which it may be possible to identify some of the brick throwers. If these culprits can be caught and given the maximum punishment, maybe some sense will prevail among the political parties! I have heard that goons are paid for damaging vehicles and shops as a bonus over and above the daily rate for participation in enforcing hartals. This can't be democracy.
